Bulky Rubbish Collection

If you have items to get rid of that are too big for your standard household waste bins (e.g. furniture, appliances or mattresses) make sure they are safely disposed of by booking a bulky waste collection.

Please note: Collection crews are not be able to enter your property under any circumstances, so please ensure your items are easily accessible outside of your property so they can complete the collection. 
 

Alternative options for bulky waste:

We offer a convenient service to collect large household items that don’t fit in your regular bins, however before booking you could consider donating usable items to local charities or try reuse sites like Freecycle, Freegle, Preloved or local Facebook selling pages to keep these items in use. 

How to book

Get everything ready

Please ensure you have everything you need to hand before starting your booking. If you do not complete the booking form in the allotted time (five minutes to complete the form, and a further five minutes to complete the payment), your answers will not be saved, you will not be able to book or pay, and you will need to start the form again. 

  • Make a note of all the items you want collected and check whether these will require one booking or two*.
  • Check your calendar for your preferred collection dates.
  • Have your debit or credit card ready - you will need to pay when you book.  

*We are not able to collect soft furnishings (e.g. sofas or upholstered headboards) alongside other bulky waste items (e.g. fridges or mattresses).

If you have a mixture of soft furnishings and non-soft furnishings, you will need to split these into two collections and pay for two collections. These collections may not be on the same day.

Important booking information

  • List each item separately: For example, a three-piece suite should be listed as three items, e.g. one sofa and two chairs.
  • Unlisted items: If your item isn’t shown, please select the closest match.
  • Collection types: Bookings must be for either: 'Soft furnishings only', or 'Non-soft items' (which can include electrical items.

Book by phone

If you cannot book online:

  • Call 01279 655261 and select “Refuse and Recycling”.
  • Provide: A list of items, specifying if any are upholstered.
  • The location of items if not at the front of your property.
  • Have a credit or debit card ready for payment (you’ll be transferred to an automated payment line).

We collect a wide range of household items, grouped as follows:

Soft items (upholstered items)

  • Armchairs and cushioned chairs
  • Cushions
  • Sofas (2-seater, 3-seater, corner units)
  • Sofa beds
  • Upholstered dining chairs
  • Upholstered footstools and pouffes
  • Upholstered office chairs
  • Upholstered headboards

Non-soft items 

  • Bagged waste (up to six black sacks)
  • Bed frames and mattresses (base + non-upholstered headboard + mattress = 3 items)
  • Bicycles
  • Bookcases / shelving
  • Cabinets / cupboards
  • Chairs (no upholstery / cushions)
  • Chests of drawers
  • Cookers / ovens
  • Desks
  • Dishwashers
  • Exercise equipment
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Garden furniture (no upholstery / cushions)
  • IT equipment (e.g., printers, desktop towers, scanners, monitors)
  • Kettles and toasters
  • Lamps
  • Microwaves
  • Stereos and speakers
  • Tables and dining sets (table + up to 4 chairs = 2 items)
  • Televisions and monitors
  • Tumble dryers
  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Wardrobes (disassembled if possible)

Please note: The collection crew will not be able to enter your property under any circumstances, so please ensure your items are easily accessible outside of your property so they can complete the collection. 

We cannot collect:

  • Trade waste (e.g., from builders, plumbers, or contractors they must dispose of their own waste)
  • Large volumes of waste (consider hiring a skip)
  • Hazardous items (e.g., asbestos, batteries, chemicals, gas bottles, paint/oil, plasterboard, car parts/tyres, clinical waste, large glass panes)

Take these items to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (proof of residency required) or hire a licensed skip carrier (check at Public Registers Online to avoid fly-tipping fines up to £50,000).

Mixing items: Soft and non-soft items require separate bookings and payments due to Environment Agency rules.

Example: A sofa (soft) and a fridge (non-soft) would require two bookings (£61.20 each).

 

  1. Place items outside at the front of your property by 6.30am on collection day, but no earlier than the evening before.
  2. Ensure items are ready:
    • Empty (e.g., fridges, cupboards).
    • Clean and dry (cover from rain to aid recycling).
    • Disassembled if possible (e.g., wardrobes, bed frames).
  3. Clear the route from the collection point to the road (no obstructions).

Please notify us when booking if access is restricted (e.g., narrow paths, gates).

Please note: The crew will not be able to enter your property under any circumstances, so please ensure your items are easily accessible outside of your property so they can complete the collection. 

  • Cancel online via My Account for a full refund minus a £14.40 admin fee if more than 48 hours before collection. No refunds within 48 hours of booked collection slot.
  • Amend your booking (e.g., change items or date) via My Account at least 24 hours before collection to avoid issues.
