East Herts Council is urging anyone who doesn’t pay council tax by Direct Debit to apply for the government’s £150 rebate as soon as possible.

Around 8,000 people in council tax bands A-D are yet to apply for the money, which must be paid by September.

The online application is quick and easy and the council is processing payments daily to ensure the money reaches bank accounts as swiftly as possible. Residents paying by Direct Debit received the rebate automatically.

Councillor Geoffrey Williamson, Executive Member for Financial Sustainability, said: “We need to encourage anyone who has not yet applied for the rebate to do so promptly and are appealing to residents to support us in spreading the word, to their friends, relatives, and neighbours.

“We’ve made the application process as straightforward as possible and our team is here to help if needed. You’re still entitled to the payment even if you pay less than £150 council tax, receive the single person discount, or do not pay because you receive council tax support.”

To apply, visit the council’s website.
