There will be a by-election in Little Hadham and The Pelhams on Thursday, 7 May 2026 to elect a new district councillor following the resignation of Cllr Geoffry Williamson (Conservative).

This will be the only election happening in East Herts on the day, and residents in Little Hadham and The Pelhams are encouraged to register to vote, if they haven’t already done so, before the deadline on Monday, 20 April 2026.

Residents keen to vote by post should make their postal vote applications before the deadline on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 (5PM), whilst anyone seeking to vote using a proxy should make their applications before Tuesday, 28 April 2026 (5PM).

Voters will need photographic identification, such as a UK passport or driving license, to vote in the Little Hadham and The Pelhams by-election. Those without photographic identification can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by uploading a clear photograph of themselves on the Government’s website. The deadline for residents to do this is also Tuesday, 28 April 2026 (5PM).

Helen Standen, Returning Officer for East Herts Council, said, “This by-election is a great opportunity for the residents of Little Hadham and The Pelhams to shape the future of their community by deciding who represents them in the district council chamber to champion their causes and give a voice to local issues.

Residents can find plenty of information on our council website that outlines the deadlines and processes involved in this forthcoming by-election. I’d encourage everyone to keep an eye out for their poll card, which will be delivered by Sunday 5 April 2026. While it isn’t required to vote, it does provide useful information, including your designated polling station.”
