East Herts Council is celebrating today after receiving Green Flag Awards for Castle Park (Bishop’s Stortford), Southern Country Park (Bishop’s Stortford) and The Ridgeway (Hertford). These awards come as the internationally recognised standard for parks and green spaces celebrates its 30th year.

This year a record-breaking number of parks achieved Green Flag Awards, with the three awarded parks in East Herts being a fantastic testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of the team and volunteers who care for this green space, ensuring it is maintained to a high standard for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Sarah Hopewell, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council, said, “We are fortunate in East Herts to have such incredible parks and open spaces, and we are even more fortunate for the efforts of local volunteers who do so much to protect and enhance our district landscape.

These three awards are well-deserved honours, recognising the effort and commitment that goes in to ensuring our parks effectively serve the communities they are at the heart of – I would like to thank everyone who has endeavoured to care for these treasured assets to the local area.”

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, added, “East Herts Council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.”

"Congratulations to everyone involved."

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
