Last night (Wednesday, 13 May), Cllr John Dunlop was elected to be the new Chairman of East Herts Council, following Cllr Martin Adams’ year in office.

The Chairman presides over Full Council meetings in the council chamber, whilst also performing ceremonial duties when representing the district at civic events. Cllr Joe Thomas has been elected vice-chair to support Cllr Dunlop.

The new Chairman has nominated Space, an award-winning local charity that supports neurodivergent children and young people, as well as their families, to be the focus of his charitable fundraising efforts.

On his election, Cllr Dunlop said, “I am honoured to be elected as the Council’s new chair, and look forward to being able to use this platform to raise crucial funds for Space, a local charity offering important support to neurodiverse families in our district’s communities, whilst also endeavouring to serve colleagues and residents to the best of my ability.

“I am grateful to Cllr Adams for his excellent work and offer him thanks on behalf of all the members we share the chamber with. I am eager to continue his work by facilitating a productive council chamber that encourages healthy debate and effective decision-making.”
