Last year's Arts in East Herts programme saw over 170 events take place across the district, supported by grant funding awarded to local creative organisations by East Herts Council. Building on that success, the initiative will return this September and October, showcasing a wide range of cultural activities for people to experience for free or at low cost.
Arts in East Herts aims to support artists, craftspeople and arts organisations in delivering their own cultural activities. From visual and performing arts to artisan crafts, galleries, museums and heritage sites – all are encouraged to take part.
As such, East Herts Council has launched a grant scheme offering to support the running costs of one-off events or a series of taster sessions, performances or creative workshops during the September to October Arts in East Herts showcase period. The grant scheme has a funding pot of £20,000, with the Council welcoming grant applications up to the value of £800.
The call for applications will open at 10am on Monday 22 June and must be submitted by 12pm on Monday 20 July.
Councillor Alex Daar, Executive Member for Communities at East Herts Council, said: “Arts in East Herts continues to showcase the incredible creativity that exists across our district. The programme gives residents the chance to discover new experiences, connect with local artists and organisations and take part in a wide range of cultural activities. We are delighted to be launching the grant scheme for a third year and look forward to supporting even more creative projects that will inspire and engage our communities.”
This year the scheme is funded by income generated from East Herts Lottery ticket sales, helping to support and strengthen local cultural activity across the district and ensuring that creative opportunities remain accessible to residents of all ages and backgrounds.
