Although the council had initially planned to begin engagement with local communities in September, it has decided to wait for further clarity on the upcoming changes to planning rules to avoid duplicating efforts. The council remains fully prepared to move forward as soon as the new planning rules are confirmed.
Cllr Vicky Glover-Ward, Executive Member for Planning and Growth at East Herts Council, said: “We were eager to meet and engage with our communities throughout September to discuss the future vision for planning in East Herts. However, we recognised that moving ahead before the new system is in place could mean repeating this work later, which wouldn’t be a good use of public resources.
“The good news is that we’re ready to hit the ground running immediately the changes are introduced, so we can begin this vital step in creating a new district plan.
It is not yet known when the government will introduce the new planning system, but residents will continue to be kept informed.
