This plan will make it easier, safer and more enjoyable to walk, wheel and cycle in East Herts, whether that be for work or leisure. As such, the councils are interested in getting community views on the final draft of the East Herts LCWIP and its proposed walking and cycling route network maps.
Throughout this collaboration, engagement has taken place with local residents, schools, walking and cycling groups, councillors and other key interest groups, with the aim of learning more about where people want to travel most by foot and by bicycle, and to evaluate what kind of improvements are needed to the existing network. The feedback gathered has been invaluable in shaping the emerging plan.
The councils are seeking feedback from people who live and work in East Herts to ensure that the draft final LCWIP document, and the walking and cycling route proposals which have been developed, effectively serve the district.
Feedback can be provided online (East Hertfordshire Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans), whilst council officers will also be available to provide information to the public at the following events:
- Saturday 27 September – Sawbridgeworth Travel Challenge, Cricket Pitch adjacent to Bell St, Sawbridgeworth
- Monday 29 September – Buntingford Market, High Street, Buntingford
- Saturday 4 October – Bishop's Stortford Market, South Street, Bishop’s Stortford
- Saturday 11 October – Hertford Farmers Market, Market Place, Hertford
- Sunday 19 October – Ware Local Produce and Craft Market, Tudor Square, Ware
Responses and feedback on the LCWIP are welcomed from Thursday, 25 September until Wednesday, 5 November, when the consultation closes.
Vicky Glover-Ward, Executive Member for Planning and Growth at East Herts District Council, said: “Many members of the East Herts community have already spent considerable time providing feedback, thoughts, and comments on the LCWIP during last year’s engagement, and this has been invaluable in improving the proposals.
“We look forward to gathering opinions from more of our community so our walking and cycling networks can best serve our towns, villages and rural areas. The very high level of response we’ve received in East Herts shows just how much the LCWIP network matters to our residents and communities.
“Developing a robust East Herts LCWIP will help everyone to walk, wheel or cycle more, offering physical and mental health benefits whilst facilitating a greener, more sustainable, transport future for the area.”
Cllr-Paul Zukowskyj for Hertfordshire County Council, said: "This is an important step in growing a greener Hertfordshire, and I’d encourage everyone to share their views so that together we can deliver a transport network that is safe, accessible and sustainable for the whole community."
