Funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Explore East Herts aims to engage residents in their local area, offering them something to get involved in across every rural ward in the district, from Ardeley to Watton-at-Stone and everywhere in-between.
A digital hub featuring suggestions from the campaign has been created to spotlight rural areas and what’s on until the end of the campaign in March 2026. Residents can also follow East Herts Council on social media for inspiration on how to get the most out of their exploration of the district - there are plenty of unique walks, community-favourite tea rooms and pubs, and exciting experiences to be tried out, including:
Zorb Strike taster sessions at Westmill
A Christmas light trail at Tewinbury
Heritage Crafts at Grandey’s Place in Much Hadham (Saturday, 29 November)
Skill at Arms Rifle Shooting in Sawbridgeworth
Councillor Vicky Glover-Ward, Executive Member for Planning and Growth, said, "East Herts is a predominantly rural district, home to a wealth of independent businesses that bring character and charm to our communities. It can be tough for smaller businesses to stand out, especially when it comes to marketing, so campaigns like Explore East Herts are a way for us to help them.
We also know that with our towns bordering other districts, it’s easy for people to travel out rather than discover what’s right on their doorstep. This initiative is a brilliant opportunity to reconnect with your local area – whether it’s finding a new favourite dog walk, a cosy café for hot chocolate, or a hidden gem for lunch. I’m really looking forward to discovering more about these businesses and the places they call home.”
