This September and October, residents across East Herts can look forward to a packed programme of arts and cultural events as Arts in East Herts makes its return for 2025.

So far, there are over 170 events planned, with more being added to the programme all the time. With £40,000 in grant funding awarded to local creative organisations by East Herts Council, this year’s programme offers a rich and diverse mix of activities – from painting and jewellery making to theatre workshops and live performances. Most events are free to attend, or low-cost, to make sure as many people as possible can take part and have fun.

Councillor Alex Daar, Executive Member for Communities at East Herts Council, said: “We are once again thrilled by how enthusiastic local artists and cultural groups are about throwing open their doors and inviting in local people to try out a new art or craft for themselves. There’s an exciting and varied programme across every part of the district, with activities planned for people of all ages, including plenty of things for children to do at weekends and during the autumn half term break. Over 5,000 people took part last year and we’re aiming for even more to get involved in 2025.

“New for this year, we’re delighted to add local sewing and crochet clubs to the schedule, as well as workshops where participants can learn to upcycle clothing. We’re also offering a pop-up planetarium to celebrate National Space Week, jewellery making, blacksmithing, an interactive Halloween experience, as well as puppet, costume, globe and candle-making.

“Although the grant application process has now closed, we are still keen for local groups to join the programme by sharing details of their events with us. If you are a local artist or offer cultural activities, it’s not too late to take part in Arts in East Herts. It’s a great way to find a whole new audience – just visit our website.”

Arts in East Herts is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) 2025-26, which continues to focus on building pride in place and increasing life chances across the UK, with an emphasis on local investment to kickstart economic growth and promote opportunities. The fund is structured around three main investment priorities: Communities & Place, Supporting Local Business, and People & Skills.

The events programme is being added to all the time and is available here.

Organisations interested in getting involved without grant funding can register their events via the council’s website.
