Launched in September, Arts in East Herts 2025 has already involved many people from across the district, with over 170 events programmed so far and more being added. The initiative, supported by £40,000 in grant funding from East Herts Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, aims to build arts engagement, pride in place and local opportunity.
At the halfway point, we’re celebrating the success of events so far – and shining a spotlight on some of the highlights still to come.
The second half of the Arts in East Herts calendar continues to offer rich variety across art forms, age groups, and interests. Some of the upcoming events include:
Interactive Halloween experience — a spookily creative event combining performance, set design and community involvement.
Pop-up planetarium for National Space Week — step into a celestial dome and explore the stars with workshops, projections and storytelling.
Upcycling and sewing clubs — learn to refresh and reimagine clothing and textiles.
Life drawing classes – an opportunity to try an activity which can seem a little intimidating in a friendly, reassuring environment amongst others in a similar position.
Puppet, costume and globe making — theatre and visual arts combining imagination with craft.
Children’s and family weekend sessions — especially over October half term, offering arts experiences for younger people.
These events take place in towns and villages all over East Herts, making sure people in every community can join in. Most activities are free or low cost to make sure arts and culture are open to all.
Councillor Alex Daar, Executive Member for Communities, says: “We’re delighted with how many people have already joined in but there’s still plenty of time if you haven’t yet. The events are a great chance to get out into your community and connect with like-minded people. Whether you’re a maker, learner, dancer, actor, or simply a spectator, there’s something new to try in the wide variety of events happening throughout October.”
