BEAM, Hertford's new arts venue
BEAM, a new multi-purpose arts and culture venue in Hertford will open its doors this summer following a £30m redevelopment project that has taken place over the last three years.

The venue, formerly known as Hertford Theatre, has undergone extensive work to transform it into a landmark hub for the arts. BEAM will offer live theatre, dance and music, cinema, community outreach and much more.

Amenities will include:
•    Three bespoke cinema screens allowing screenings of newly released films
•    A main auditorium with seating for 550
•    A studio theatre with seating for 150
•    A new dance studio
•    A riverside café and an additional upstairs bar for cinema goers
•    A community room
•    Improved access to all areas of the building, including backstage areas and dressing rooms

Councillor Sarah Hopewell, East Herts Council’s Executive Member for Wellbeing, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that residents can now get a real flavour of their amazing new arts venue. Re-launching with a different identity reflects the fact that BEAM is, to all intents and purposes, a brand new venue.

“With varied programming and an on-going commitment to engaging the local community, there will be something for everyone. BEAM is a fantastic community asset which will enhance the cultural life of East Herts for years to come.”

Rhys Thomas, director of BEAM, said: “This is a once-in-generation building. A testament to the positive impact the arts can have on the economic and cultural welfare of our local and regional communities. With several big names lining up to perform at BEAM the team cannot wait to open the doors to our audiences across East Herts and beyond.”

BEAM will open in August 2024. It will be open everyday, showing the latest first-release cinema as well as a full season of live performances on stage and concluding the year with the venue’s first Christmas show, Cinderella and the Glass Slipper.
