Arts in East Herts, an exciting local initiative to boost participation in the arts and cultural activities, was announced by East Herts Council today.

Running through September and October 2024, Arts in East Herts will showcase the rich artistic and cultural tapestry of East Herts through exhibitions, performances and workshops.

Individual artists and crafts people, along with arts organisations ranging from the visual and performing arts and artisan crafts through to galleries, museums and heritage sites, are being invited to take part.

Councillor Alex Daar, East Herts Executive Member for Communities, said: “Arts in East Herts will provide an umbrella for showcasing the very wide range of cultural activities on offer locally. It will be a chance for people to get involved in something new, whether that’s taking part in an artistic or cultural event, workshop or taster session, or simply visiting an exhibition or performance.

“It will be a great opportunity to discover a new interest or talent and I very much hope that Arts in East Herts will become an annual fixture.”

Arts and cultural organisations across East Herts can sign up to get involved via East Herts’ Council's website. Participating organisations will then be able to apply for financial support of up to £1,000 to help fund either a one-off event or a series of taster sessions, performances or other activities.

Arts in East Herts is funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This is a central pillar of the government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
