Hartham Leisure Centre opening announcement
East Herts Council and Everyone Active have announced an open day on Saturday 9 September 2023, inviting everyone to celebrate the new extension at Hartham Leisure Centre with a day packed full of free and fun-filled activities.

The centre is owned by East Herts Council and managed by Everyone Active. As part of the council's £9m refurbishment project, the newly completed upgrades will feature a two-storey extension, housing a state-of-the-art gym, modern studios, soft play facilities, and a vibrant cafe area.

Featuring 120 pieces of the latest fitness equipment, the gym will offer impressive views over Hartham Common. It will cater for increased demand, offering a diverse range of cardiovascular equipment, dedicated weightlifting zones, and a variety of resistance equipment, ensuring that there is something suitable for everyone's fitness journey. Additionally, the centre will feature two spacious studios, providing ample space for an expanded schedule of group exercise classes and community activities.

Young families will enjoy the addition of a brand-new, three-tier soft play structure that offers a dedicated play area. A baby sensory zone will complement this exciting feature, providing a safe and engaging space for the little ones. Adding an extra layer of fun, an interactive wristband feature called TAGplay will introduce gamification elements to the play experience. Children can tag checkpoints, earn points and set time records as they navigate the play structure, and enjoy the classic slides and obstacles.

Councillor Sarah Hopewell, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council said: "I am really pleased that the leisure centre is nearing completion. As a member for many years myself, I feel that the inclusion of a soft-play area and cafe will add real value, making it an inviting centre for well-being across generations. The additional fitness facilities will also dramatically boost the capacity for participation in popular classes. Whether you're a regular member, or it's your first visit, I encourage everyone to join us at the grand opening on 9 September, for a chance to see our exciting new facility first-hand.”

In addition to the new and improved facilities, energy improvements have also been introduced to provide sustainable energy and support the centre’s commitment to a greener future. These include the installation of solar panels on the roof, an air source heat pump removing any need for additional gas, and a green feature wall served by rainwater from the roof – providing an amazing visual feature to blend into the green space around Hartham.

Additionally, ease of access has been addressed with the creation of a new entrance allowing customers to access the centre from the car park and Hartham Common area.

Paul Lindsey, General Manager at Everyone Active said: “We’re delighted the refurbishment project at Hartham Leisure Centre is nearing completion and that we can now announce an opening date of Saturday 9 September. We’ll be hosting a family fun day to celebrate, inviting the local community to come down and experience the upgraded facilities, enjoying a wide range of activities for free. More details to come on that soon.

“The developments will go a long way in significantly increasing the provision of activities at the centre, working to further drive the health and wellbeing of the local community whilst feeding into the sustainability initiatives of the council and Everyone Active.”
