Charles and Sofia Erleigh, the couple behind Smoke BBQ Kitchen in Hockerill Street, Bishop’s Stortford, have been chosen to operate the new café in Castle Park following a competitive tender process.

The 60 seater café, with both indoor and outdoor seating, will be situated in the Markwell Pavilion which is currently under refurbishment as part of the ongoing improvements at Castle Park. It will open seven days a week, providing a vibrant and inviting place to meet when visiting the park or the nearby town centre. It will also cater for community groups and events.

Sofia Erleigh said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected to develop a new café for Castle Park. It’s an exciting opportunity for us to expand our business portfolio and to further support our community with a different offering. We are liaising closely with the Castle Park project team to realise our vision, and look forward to sharing more details regarding the concept, menu and name in due course.”

Councillor Sarah Hopewell, East Herts Council’s Executive Member for Wellbeing, said: “Charles and Sofia submitted an inspired tender which clearly demonstrated their professional credentials and extensive experience in the restaurant sector. The café will be a fantastic addition to the facilities at Castle Park. I can’t wait to find out what will be on the menu!”

Food vendors in the park and Sworders Field will continue to trade as usual, providing takeaway ice creams, coffee and other light refreshments.
