An awards scheme celebrating outstanding projects in the construction industry has crowned Grange Paddocks its regional winner.

Voted the ‘Best Public / Community Building’ in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards, the new leisure centre will now go through to the national finals in January.

The awards focus on the very best in technical innovation and construction delivery, helping to raise the level of construction quality across England and Wales. Judges look for evidence of collaboration between partners and creative approaches to problem solving, sustainability and inclusivity when choosing winners.

Councillor Eric Buckmaster, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council, said: “Grange Paddocks will celebrate its first anniversary of opening next month, after what has been a truly fantastic year. Keeping the construction project on track through the pandemic was no easy task, but we did it, and the quality of what was delivered will be enjoyed for generations to come. We’re in good company for the national finals and I wish the team the very best of luck.”

The project team included Willmott Dixon Construction, Saunders Boston Architects, East Herts District Council, Varsity Consulting and Hertfordshire Building Control.
