The East Herts Dementia Action Group, led and part-funded by East Herts Council, has today (Wednesday, 21 September) received its Dementia Friendly status for the third year running.

Over 40 local organisations are involved in the group and over 900 new dementia friends have been trained to help those living with dementia or age-related memory loss.

The East Herts Council community grant programme has contributed over £16,000 to help fund dementia friendly activities and the local action group has coordinated a varied mix of sessions including:

  • Forever Cycling in Hertford, Ware, Bishop’s Stortford and Little Hadham on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Bat & Chat table tennis at Grange Paddocks on Fridays
  • Dementia friendly film screenings at the Red Chair Cinema Club in Little Hadham
  • Allsorts Dementia group in Sawbridgeworth

Councillor Eric Buckmaster, Executive Member for Wellbeing at East Herts Council, said: “Dementia affects thousands of people in East Herts today, as well as many others in terms of friends, families and carers.

“We are proud to support the local action group and our partner organisations that deliver wide-ranging activities in our communities.

“I would urge people not to struggle alone – support is out there – whether that’s playing sport, singing or simply enjoying a chat over a cuppa.”
