Veolia, in partnership with East Herts and North Herts Councils, has rolled out new and more environmentally friendly recycling and waste collection vehicles to operate on the streets of East and North Hertfordshire.
Just five months after East and North Herts introduced the biggest change to waste and recycling services in over a decade, residents across both districts have achieved one of the sharpest reductions in non-recyclable waste either council has ever seen. Waste collected from residents’ purple-lidded bins has fallen by 5,883 tonnes compared with the same period last year.
Following the introduction of three-weekly collections, East Herts and North Herts Councils have launched a new mobile app to help residents manage their waste and recycling more easily.
Residents across North and East Herts can now spot “Sweep Caroline” the street sweeper, “Dame Foodie Dench” the food waste collection truck, and “Binderella” the Refuse Collection Vehicle out on their rounds – just a few of the winning names chosen for the area’s waste collection fleet.
East Herts District Council is preparing for the launch of its new waste and recycling collection service, due to begin on Monday, 4 August 2025. As part of this change, all households will shortly receive a letter outlining whether their collection day is changing and detailing the new three-weekly collection cycle.
East and North Hertfordshire residents are being invited to take part in a competition to name the districts’ fleet of waste and recycling vehicles, ahead of the launch of a new bin collection service, which starts the week commencing 4 August 2025.
East Herts and North Herts Councils are set to launch their new waste and recycling collection service on Monday, 4 August 2025. The new service will offer residents more recycling options, change the frequency of collections, and introduce a more efficient and sustainable service for both districts.
As East Herts Council and Hertfordshire Police continue their determined efforts to crack down on fly-tipping offences, several fines amounting to upwards of £3000 have been issued to individuals and companies across the district.
East Herts Council is delighted to join this year’s Recycle Week (14 – 20 October) to celebrate the efforts of people in the district and help save five packaging heroes from the rubbish bin.
