Hertford Hydro Project

A scheme to create power using the water flow of the River Lee by Hertford Theatre is being developed by East Herts Council.

The micro hydro scheme will contribute carbon free electricity for the theatre during its opening hours through a 12Kw, semi Kaplan turbine located in the old sluice gate channel at Castle Weir. When the theatre is closed, surplus power will go into the National Grid.

The project will also benefit the biodiversity of the River as it will include a fish pass together with an eel pass.

This web page will be updated on a regular basis as the project develops from the design and planning stage through to project implementation.
