Hertfordshire has launched its first ever countywide Retrofit Strategy this week, following a 50-strong stakeholder event on 8 July – a collaborative roadmap developed by councils, businesses, colleges, housing associations and local organisations to accelerate home energy efficiency improvements across the county.

Solar-powered duck food dispenser now installed at Southern Country Park
East Herts Council is excited to announce the installation of a new solar-powered, cashless duck food dispenser at Southern Country Park in Bishop’s Stortford. Offering visitors an eco-friendly and convenient way to feed the ducks healthy food to support their diet, whilst maintaining a waste-free environment. The machine has been provided and installed by The Feed Ducks Initiative Ltd, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Friends of Southern Country Park.

East Herts Council marks its 50th Anniversary by Planting Trees to Improve Air Quality
Commemorating East Herts Council’s 50th anniversary, 50 trees have been planted in the district’s three Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) and areas of air pollution, with another 50 planted in locations experiencing traffic congestion and flood risk. All the trees will contribute to improving air quality and tackling the effects of climate change across the district.

Ware primary school recognised for steps taken to improve air quality
Priors Wood primary school in Ware has won a £250 prize as part of East Herts Council’s DEFRA-funded Breathe Clean initiative. The prize recognizes the school’s efforts over the last twelve months to educate students and parents on what contributes to air pollution and to promote active travel alternatives. The prize will be used to fund more scooter storage.
