East Herts Council is delighted to join this year’s Recycle Week (14 – 20 October) to celebrate the efforts of people in the district and help save five packaging heroes from the rubbish bin.
Around 2000 households in Sawbridgeworth will be able to recycle their plastic bags and wrapping as part of their usual recycling.
They join around 2,200 households in Knebworth which started a pilot in October last year. North Herts and East Herts will be able to recycle their soft plastics at the kerbside next year, as part of the two councils’ new joint waste contract.
Following a competitive procurement process, North Herts and East Herts councils' next joint waste, recycling and street cleansing contract will be awarded to Veolia, starting from May 2025.
There is a new member of the recycling team! Paige features in a new video campaign to promote paper recycling which has been launched by East Herts Council and North Herts Council’s Shared Waste Service to highlight the important impact residents can have by separating out paper from their recycling.
Changes to the waste and street cleansing services operated jointly by East Herts and North Herts Councils were confirmed yesterday (Thursday 21 December) at a meeting of the East Herts Council’s Executive team. These will come into operation in May 2025.
East and North Herts Councils are encouraging residents to do their bit to help the environment and keep service costs down by separating their paper from their mixed recyclables and general waste.
This week East Herts Council is launching a campaign to support the #WorthSaving initiative which aims to tackle the issue of avoidable food waste by encouraging residents to follow a ‘four steps to save’ food waste journey to develop better habits.
Following agreement by Executive on 25 October 2022, East Herts Council will begin the phasing of 180L refuse bins when existing general waste bins need to be replaced because they are lost or damaged. This will also begin the transition to standard bin sizes and colours for East and North Herts which will save money and improve stock levels for replacements.
You may spot some new additions to town centres in East Herts as new recycling bins are installed across the district - part of ongoing efforts to promote recycling, reduce litter and re-direct waste from landfill.
