Just five months after East and North Herts introduced the biggest change to waste and recycling services in over a decade, residents across both districts have achieved one of the sharpest reductions in non-recyclable waste either council has ever seen. Waste collected from residents’ purple-lidded bins has fallen by 5,883 tonnes compared with the same period last year.

East Herts Council have been working with artists from the local community, as well as Ware Men’s Shed, to upcycle ten benches that line the Ware to Hertford towpath, bringing the old benches back to life and decorating them with art inspired by the spirit, nature and heritage of the River Lea.

Thermal Imaging Cameras to Hire
East Herts District Council, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, has launched a new Thermal Imaging Camera Loan Scheme in Winter 2025. The initiative will enable residents to borrow a thermal imaging camera free of charge from their local library. The scheme is designed to help households identify where heat may be escaping from their homes, highlighting insulation gaps, draughts and other areas where energy efficiency improvements could be made.
