Royal Tribute - Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

It was with great sadness we received the news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away on 8 September 2022.

Residents can visit our offices at Wallfields in Hertford and Charringtons House in Bishop's Stortford to sign books of condolence in person. 

Both offices will be open at the following times:

  • Friday, 9 September until 5pm
  • Saturday, 10 September, 10am to 4pm
  • Monday, 12 September to Friday, 16 September, 9am to 5pm

The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire has also made an e-book of condolence which is available for the public to sign online.

East Herts Council Chairman has issued a statement.

Areas have been prepared to lay floral tributes in the main towns across the district as follows:  

Bishop's Stortford:

Flowers may be laid near the War Memorial in the Churchyard of St Michael's Church or near the War Memorial in Castle Gardens.

Buntingford:

Flowers may be laid at the Buntingford War Memorial.

Hertford:

Flowers may be laid at Hertford Castle, either side of the doors facing the main lawn.  

Sawbridgeworth:

Flowers may be laid by the War Memorial in the grounds of Great St Mary's Church.

Ware:

Flowers may be laid at The Priory, on the left by the flagpole as you enter the grounds.

 

Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to His Mercy our late Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth the Second of Blessed and Glorious Memory, by whose

Decease the Crown of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is solely and rightfully come to The Prince Charles Philip Arthur George:

We, therefore, the Lords Spiritual and Temporal of this Realm and Members of the House of Commons, together with other members of Her late Majesty’s Privy Council and representatives of the Realms and Territories, Aldermen and Citizens of London, and others, do now hereby with one voice and Consent of Tongue and Heart publish and proclaim that The Prince Charles Philip Arthur George is now, by the Death of our late Sovereign of Happy Memory, become our only lawful and rightful Liege Lord Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to whom we do acknowledge all Faith and Obedience with humble Affection; beseeching God by whom Kings and Queens do reign to bless His Majesty with long and happy Years to reign over us.

Given at St. James’s Palace this tenth day of September in the year of Our Lord twenty thousand and twenty-two.

Friday 16 September - 1pm, paved area by the flagpole outside the council offices: Wallfields, Hertford, SG13 8EQ

The service, to give thanks for the Queen’s life and reign, will include formal tributes, music and a minute’s silence.

Guests will be standing for the service, which will last around 20-30 minutes. Anyone with disability or special access requirements can email esther.piper@eastherts.gov.uk
