District Plan Holding Direction

The holding direction on the East Herts District Plan has today (12th October 2018) been lifted by Rt. Hon James Brokenshire, Secretary of State for Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

On September 11 the council was issued with a holding direction on the District Plan, which was due to adopted by the council later that day.

By lifting the holding direction, the MHCLG has acknowledged that the Plan is indeed sound, as found by an independent inspector earlier this year, and will allow the council to move forward with officially adopting it. This means that much needed homes can now be delivered for the residents and communities of East Herts and the council can resist inappropriate development.

Linda Haysey, Leader, East Herts Council said "Following the issue of the holding direction, the council has been working with MHCLG to come to a speedy resolution and prevent development taking place in areas that have not been identified as suitable.

"We are pleased that our work to create a sound Plan has been recognised and look forward to pressing ahead with adopting the Plan and giving our residents and businesses some assurances for the future of our district.

The Plan was adopted at an Extraordinary Council meeting on the 23 October 2018.
