Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to create an account for the app?
No, there is no need to create an account or remember a password for the app. All you need to do when you open the app for the first time is provide your home address to ensure the information you receive in the app – like collection dates – is specific to your address.
Currently if you need to fill in a form for a service like reporting a missed bin you will be taken to the main Council website where you will need to log into your account as normal.
- What kind of notifications will I get from the app?
If you allow push notifications, you will get them for:
- Bin collection reminders (including collection day and which bins to put out)
- Service disruption updates due to instances like adverse weather (e.g. snow)
- Local events and emergencies
- Can I turn notifications off?
You can turn off notifications for the app within your mobile device settings, however this does mean that you will not be notified about your upcoming bin collection or any other information that your Council needs to send to you.
- Is my data safe?
The app does not store any personal or sensitive data and is fully GDPR-compliant. Any data collected by the app such as email or home address, is stored securely on your device. Should you wish to delete the app, this data will disappear – it is not stored by the app developer or the Council.
- Why do I need to give the app camera and location access?
When you download the app, you will need to allow permissions for notifications, location and camera access. This allows you to access the full functionality of the app both now and as it develops. We do not track any data other than the data you send us when you make a report.
- What if I need help with the app?
We hope that the app is simple to use but if you do have any questions or issues, please contact our customer services team. Alternatively, you can visit your local library or community centre for technology support.
- How much space does the app take up?
The app should only take up around 30MB of storage on your phone.
- Can I see another person’s collections?
You can enter a different address in the app to view the bin collection schedule for that location. However, this information is also publicly available on our website and is not confidential.
- What happens over bank holidays or Christmas?
Your bin collection information will be automatically updated to reflect any changes to your collections. Your notifications will also adjust to remind you which bin to present on which day.
- What happens if I move house?
If you move house within East / North Hertfordshire, you can just update your address in the app settings. If you move outside of the district the information will no longer be relevant and so you can delete the app from your device.
