Retail Frontages : Design & Signage Supplementary Planning Document

The Council is consulting on a draft Retail Frontages: Design & Signage Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)to support the effective implementation of the design and heritage policies in the East Herts District Plan.

The SPD provides guidance to applicants, agents, architects and traders on the requirements for high quality retail frontages, the replacement of existing frontages and the installation of new shop fronts throughout the district. The aim is to raise the standard of design quality and to enhance the attractiveness and local distinctiveness of the district's shopping environments. The draft SPD can be viewed here alongside the Environmental Screening Statement that was prepared to determine whether the proposed SPD should be subject to Strategic Environment Assessment:

Consultation - have your say

This is your opportunity to comment on the draft SPD. The Council is consulting on the draft SPD for 6 weeks from Thursday 20 June until 5pm on Thursday 1 August 2019. To view and make comments please visit the Council's Consultation Portal.

Alternatively you can download a comment form [1MB] and return it by email to planningpolicy@eastherts.gov.uk or by post to: Planning Policy, East Herts Council, Wallfields, Pegs Lane, Hertford, SG13 8EQ.

Paper copies of the consultation documents will be available to view during normal office hours at the East Herts Council Offices in Hertford and Bishop's Stortford, the town councils and in local libraries. A full list of locations is set out in the Statement of Availability [51KB]  

Next Steps

Following the consultation, the comments received will be considered and any necessary changes will be made to the Statement of Community Involvement. The final statement will then be considered by the council for adoption in Autumn 2019.
