Recently, the Government announced that around 20 million households in England in council tax bands A-D will get £150.00, paid via their local council.

** PLEASE NOTE - This does not reduce the amount of Council Tax you have to pay.

Who’s eligible?

  • Households in council tax bands A-D will receive the £150 council tax payment.
  • However, second homes or empty properties will not benefit.

How/when will my household get the £150?

The government has given councils until September to make payments. However, we are working hard to get money to residents as quickly as possible.

•   If you pay your council tax by direct debit, we started making payments on 28 April. We have many thousands of people to pay so we are processing these in batches over the coming weeks. Some accounts may also require manual checks which will take longer. We understand that everyone is eager to receive payment, but you do not need to contact us. We are working as quickly as we can and will be in touch if there is a problem.

•   For those who recently signed up to direct debit, we will be making payments to you after collecting your first payment, in line with government guidance.

•   If you are not signed-up to pay by direct debit, we will be launching an application process. This will be on our website and promoted widely.

**Please beware of scams. We will never call to ask for your bank details.

What if my household isn’t eligible?

  • The Government will give councils a cash limited fund to provide support to vulnerable households who may not qualify for the £150 council tax payment.
  • This includes people on low incomes in council tax bands E-H.
  • You will need to apply for this help, and details will be on our website after the 11 May 2022.

Full guidance is available on the government website.
