Duke of Edinburgh
A statement from Cllr Jonathan Kaye, Chairman of East Herts Council

"East Herts Council was deeply saddened to learn about the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on Friday 9 April 2021

Since his marriage to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 20th November 1947, he has dedicated his life to serving this nation and being Her Majesty’s ‘Strength and Stay’ throughout their marriage.

At East Herts Council’s buildings in Hertford and Bishop’s Stortford, flags have been lowered to half-mast.

Floral tributes may be laid in Hertford on the grassed area outside the lawn entrance to Hertford Castle or in Bishop’s Stortford at the War Memorial in Castle Park or in the churchyard at St Michael’s Church.

A book of condolence has also been set up on the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire website.

The Duke was involved with some 800 charities or bodies, with a particular interest in scientific and technological research, industry, the environment and sport.

His dedication and steadfastness to the country leaves a legacy that will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace."
