East Herts Council welcomes new Chief Executive

At last night's Full Council, councillors supported the appointment of Richard Cassidy who will take the helm as the new Chief Executive later this year (exact date TBC), following the departure of Liz Watts.

Richard joins the team from Fenland District Council where he served for 15 years as their Corporate Director with responsibility for Community, Environment and Leisure. Richard brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked in local government for over 30 years at councils in London, Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

Richard joins at an exciting time for the council with a number of ambitious projects underway, including the Old River Lane development in Bishop's Stortford, the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town in partnership with Epping Forest and Harlow councils, and major investments in Hartham and Grange Paddocks leisure centres and Hertford Theatre.

Richard brings with him a huge amount of experience, having led a number of high profile projects and successful change and transformation programmes at councils across the East of England.  We look forward to working with him and I know the council and our residents will benefit from his vast experience."

Richard Cassidy, new Chief Executive at East Herts Council said:

It was described as an ambitious council that wants to create a healthier and more sustainable place for its residents.  I am keen to continue and build upon this transformation and look forward to working with the team and the community. "

Liz Watts will leave the council in May after three and half years as Chief Executive.
