On Monday evening (28 January) East Herts saw a great turnout of people wanting a new way to help their favourite local charity by participating in a new community lottery.

Over a hundred people attended the launch, including councillors Jeff Jones, Jan Goodeve, Mike Allen, Linda Haysey, Keith Warnell and Chief Executive Liz Watts who were there to show their support for this great new initiative. The event took place at Hertford Theatre where Councillor Bob Deering explained how it works and how you can support it.

For those who couldn't attend, the East Herts Lottery is an exciting new weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in our district. Tickets for the lottery cost just £1 per week and 60p goes straight to charity. Each ticket has a 1 in 50 chance to win, with a top prize of £25,000! That's a better chance of winning than the National Lottery or the Health Lottery!

Bob Deering, councillor for East Herts Council said; "The new lottery is a fantastic opportunity for charities in East Herts to benefit from extra funding and for residents to  be able to support their chosen local cause. They may even win a cash prize for themselves. I would encourage all local charities to sign up and am really pleased that the launch has shown how just popular the East Herts lottery is."

Residents can choose from a wide variety of good causes to support from health and social care charities to sports clubs. If you would like to purchase tickets or you are a charitable and/or community organisation that would like to register on the site visit East Herts Lottery or call 01279 912777.
