We are part of the National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP) for Local Government. The NGDP is a two-year graduate management development programme, run by the Local Government Association.
The programme has been set up to provide local government with the high-calibre managers that communities need by giving committed graduates the training and opportunities to make a positive impact in the sector. This unique development offer provides you with experience in a dynamic, exciting and socially responsible employer: a launch pad for a successful leadership career in local government. NGDP also recognise you as an individual and will place you right at the centre of your own career development.
The ngdp offers a national salary for trainees on the programme.
- £23,935 (plus inner or outer London weighting, if applicable)
- Generous holiday entitlement
- Pension scheme
- Unrivalled work/life balance
The package ngdp offers demonstrates that local government is a serious player in the graduate market. You will be employed by the council on a two-year fixed term contract.
For more information on how to be part of the programme please view the NGDP website.
Our apprenticeships are designed for school or colleges leavers looking to start work. Whilst GCSEs and A-Levels are desirable, they are not essential. Additional study in the framework can support young adults who do not have A-C GCSE in English and Maths.
We offer a salary commencing at £4.00 per hour depending on age and level of qualification. You will start on a one or two year fixed term contract depending on the qualification you pursue. During this time you will learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills to gain a qualification whilst earning money at the same time.
To really benefit from the best training and opportunities, you need to be motivated and excited about a career with us. You will be someone who likes working within a team, good communicator with a positive approach to the workplace and commitment to working flexibly to achieve what your service or team needs.
The council is committed to encouraging and promoting good quality work experience placements to young people.
Work experience is crucial in helping students adopt key skills such as responsibility, independence and communication. It is an important part of the education system which helps lay down stepping stones for future career paths. Students are able to learn about real life working situations, using these experiences to make decisions later in life.
The council provides work experience placements for students in years 10 and above. The HR team also work with Youth Connexions in local schools, providing opportunities for students in years 9 and under.
If you are interested in finding out what career opportunities are available at the council, or already have a career in mind and would just like to spend some time with us getting to know more, then we are here to help. You may also see us at a career fayre at your school.
We have a wide range of work experience opportunities available from one day tasters to longer periods. We will make every effort to support you in your work experience placement. In return we only ask that you're enthusiastic and willing to learn.
