East Herts Council is looking to recruit a hardworking, capable individual with the ability to support potentially vulnerable clients to join our strong housing team.
You will be required to provide a comprehensive and responsive management and support service for homeless households placed in one of our Hostels, privately leased properties or Bed & Breakfast accommodation under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996. The role will be expected to ensure that the units of temporary accommodation available to the council are used appropriately, economically and effectively whilst minimising the council’s use of Bed and Breakfast.
The role will manage two Hostel Officers and ensure that our Hostels remain in a good state of repair and are compliant to statutory standards with regard to Health and Safety and suitability. You will ensure all records relating to the units of temporary accommodation and homeless households are maintained, up to date and accurate and actively monitor performance of the service.
You will be based at one of the council’s temporary accommodation (Hostel) offices but will regularly visit the council’s other temporary accommodation provision across the district.
What we are looking for:
You will need to be an excellent communicator, highly organised and possess demonstrable numerical and IT skills. Be able to demonstrate confidence, flexibility and the ability to have honest and clear conversations with customers about the temporary accommodation being offered to them.
You will require excellent people management skills, be able to work on your own initiative and work strategically with colleagues across the Council and with external partner agencies to ensure council's strategic housing and homelessness objectives are achieved. You will have kknowledge and experience of working in a Homelessness or Social Housing service as well as an understanding of the current issues and best practice relevant to working in a residential/Hostel environment .
Candidates must have a clean UK driving license and access to their own vehicle.
A Basic DBS check will be carried out for this post.
