Hire an E-Car in East Herts

An electric car club is operated by East Herts Council offering a convenient alternative to running a car while helping to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality for everyone in the district. It is also an excellent opportunity for people to trial electric vehicles before making their own move to one.

The council, in conjunction with Ubeeqo (part of  Europcar Mobility Group), has  three vehicles at the council's Wallfields offices in Hertford and two at The Causeway Car Park in Bishop's Stortford available for public use in the evenings and at weekends.

They're parked in electric-vehicle spaces installed by the council as part of its strategy to improve air quality and traffic congestion, reduce single occupancy car commuting and help reduce carbon emissions.

The scheme has been funded through a Defra air quality grant, with the sites for the cars chosen to be close to two Air Quality Management Areas - Gascoyne Way and Hockerill Junction.

Evenings and weekends

The cars can be booked outside of work hours during the week, 6pm-8.30am and anytime at weekends, online via the Ubeeqo Webapp booking platform. If you are a new user, you will need to sign up and register first. Minimum membership age is 19. Car hire is charged on an hourly rate. Vehicles can be booked for any length of time over one hour and, as they're fully electric, there are no additional fuel costs. Insurance is included in the price.

E-Car Club's award-winning Renault ZOE 40KwH hatchbacks have an average range of 120-150 miles per charge. Should members wish to travel further afield, they can find more than 10,000 public charging points across the UK on the Zap-Map website.
