Birchall plan to be examined

A one-day public session about the proposed development of Birchall Garden Suburb will be held in Welwyn Garden City as the East Herts District Plan Examination in Public (EiP) reaches its final stage.

East Herts Council's District Plan sets out where homes and related infrastructure could go in the district until 2033.

Birchall Garden Suburb/East of Welwyn Garden City is one of the proposed sites in the Plan and could take 2,550 homes. It straddles the boundary of East Herts and Welwyn Hatfield councils.

Two independent government inspectors will hear from both councils and from speakers against the proposed development. The inspector will invite speakers in advance and other members of the public won't be able to speak at the session.

Public session

It's on Tuesday January 30 at Welwyn Hatfield Council chamber in the council offices, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City ALE 6AE and is open to the public.

The morning session starts at 9.30am and will look at the Green Belt and ecology among other issues. The afternoon session starts at 2pm and will look at historic heritage and retail among other issues. For full details of the timetable visit www.eastherts.gov.uk/districtplanexamination

If you have any queries please contact the programme officer at louise@poservices.co.uk or 07789 486419.

After the hearing sessions have closed the inspector will write a report which the council hopes to receive in April.
