First Holocaust Memorial Day event

Speakers from different faiths and school pupils will be taking part in East Herts Council's first Holocaust Memorial Day event at the end of January.

Readings and videos will be based around this year's theme of The Power of Words.

Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27 is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and in the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

The council event is on Thursday evening, January 25 in the council chamber, Wallfields, Pegs Lane, Hertford SG13 8EQ. It will last for around one hour and will be followed by light refreshments.

Chairman Jeff Jones said: "This is an opportunity to remember the Holocaust, its victims and survivors, and subsequent genocides. It's a time to reflect and promise ourselves to learn the lessons from these events."

To attend the event please RSVP to chairmans.office@eastherts.gov.uk with your name by Monday January 15 and we'll send you the start time.
