East Herts Volunteer Scheme

If you want to sprinkle your festive cheer then take a look at some of our local volunteering opportunities this Christmas, and help put a smile on someone's face.

Christmas Alone 2017, Hertford.

Volunteers are needed this year to help host the 'Christmas Alone' party at Sele School. This party will be held to support those who may be housebound, lonely, young or old resident in the area, lifting their Christmas spirits with an open invite to all including a traditional lunch and entertainment.

Hertford District churches together are calling out for any volunteers who can assist in participating for all or part of the day, providing transport and/or entertainment, or simply driving lunches to those who are housebound.
Any help beforehand, on Christmas Eve, to make Christmas treats, prepare food, set table decorations with small presents and assistance with a coffee morning to raise funds will all be appreciated too. Additionally, those who attend on Christmas Day will be invited to sit down for a meal once the guests have eaten.

Please contact Janet Bird (01992 587544) or Cheryl Jackson (01992 583958) for further details if you would like to help.

Company at Christmas, Bishop's Stortford.

Volunteers at Bishop's Stortford Methodist Church are offering Christmas lunch, entertainment and tea to people who would otherwise be alone on this special day. The guests mostly consist of the elderly, but also include some younger people who have special needs or learning difficulties.

This is a major event which is supported by fundraising activities and donations during the year, also it is dependent on the church members' contribution of their time and effort to prepare from January onwards to successfully organise for this occasion.

Lastly, if any food producers or shops are inclined to donate some edible gifts or small presents they will all be greatly welcomed and valued.

For more information regarding this event then please contact the Bishop's Stortford Methodist Church: 01279 501745 or take a look at the Methodist Church website.
