Plenty of support at Hertford open day

Community support was on offer from all sorts of local groups at a valuable support day in Hertford on Saturday.

Organisations ranging from Samaritans to Carers in Herts set up stalls in the town centre and handed out lots of useful information. They chatted with visitors and several stalls signed up some new volunteers too.

Millmeads Primary School sang Christmas carols, and adding a welcoming feel to the day were warming glasses of mulled wine donated by McMullen Brewery and festive snacks from Sainsbury's as well as mouth-watering sausage rolls from the Dog and Whistle pub in Hertford.

Organiser Councillor Steve Cousins (Hertford Sele ward) said: "I'm so pleased that some welcome help and advice was provided to local residents and that all the groups taking part used the event as an opportunity to network with each other and make new contacts.

"There is lots of support out there and this was a one-stop shop for people to find out what's available in their neighbourhood."
