Top Tips for Personal Safety & Home Security

Sadly Christmas is often a time for criminals to strike. Take a look at our top tips for keeping yourself and your home safe over Christmas.

  • Ensure the exterior of your home is well-lit - there are lots of security lights available now that do not need hard wiring in order to work.
  • Make sure windows and doors are secure (all year round)
  • Keep gifts out of sight
  • Properly dispose of any packaging for new items, so as not to advertise them
  • Never leave your purse/wallet in your shopping trolley. Keep your bag zipped & close to you at all times to avoid having your purse dipped. Read the police advice following purse dippings for more info
  • Never reveal your PIN numbers to anyone & use your hands to cover the ATM number pad
  • To avoid becoming a victim of phishing scams on email , don't give out confidential information readily, especially if you're suspicious of the message you receive and don't click on any links
  • Never give out confidential information, especially your bank details to callers over the phone. Legitimate organisations including your bank or the police would never ask you for this
  • If you're going away, don't post the details or photos on social media until you're back home.
