Top Tips to Save Energy & Money

Most of the energy we use comes from fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas and if used at the current rate, will run out within a few generations. Take a look at our top tips for saving energy and money.

Insulate your loft to a depth of at least 270mm which reduces heat loss

Install cavity wall insulation

Most heat from homes is lost through walls. Cavity wall insulation (professionally installed) takes under 3 hours keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer

Draught proofing

Eliminate draughts & wasted heat - install a cheap, easy-to-fix brush or PVC seal on exterior doors. Keep letterboxes and keyholes covered. Fill floorboard gaps and skirting boards with newspaper, beading or sealant

Insulate hot water tank

Fit a jacket on your tank - this reduces its heat loss by around 75 per cent!

Reduce thermostat by 1 degree

Can cut heating bills by up to 10 per cent!

Close curtains at dusk to stop heat getting out of windows

Always turn off lights when you leave a room

Use energy efficient light bulbs

Compact Fluorescent bulbs last up to 12 times longer and use a fraction of the electricity guzzled by ordinary bulbs.  Preferably, choose LED bulbs
