Other Support & Benefits

When you claim Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support there are a number of additional elements that you might qualify for. In addition to this there are a number of different benefit schemes run by the DWP which you may be eligible for.

  • Attendance Allowance

    Attendance Allowance is a tax free weekly benefit for people aged 65 or over who need help with personal care because of illness or disability.

  • Disability Living Allowance

    Disability Living Allowance is a tax free benefit for people under 65 years old, who need help with personal care, with getting around, or both.

  • Discretionary Housing Payments

    Discretionary Housing Payment is for people in receipt of partial Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support but who are struggling to pay the shortfall.

  • Help with Childcare Costs

    Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit rules include help for people who have to pay child care costs.

  • Non-Dependants Deduction

    A non-dependant deduction means that your Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support can be reduced if someone aged 18 years or over normally lives with you on a non-commercial basis, such as an adult son, daughter, relative or friend.

  • Benefits for Students

    If you're a full-time student, you may be exempt from Council Tax if you're the liable person and in certain circumstances you may also be eligible for Housing Benefit.

  • Second Adult Rebate

    This is a Benefit for people who are solely liable for Council Tax, but do not get a single person discount because there are other adults living in the property.

  • Extended Payment

    When you start work or increase your hours, you may be entitled to extra Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.

  • Council Tax Discounts, Exemptions & Disregards

    Even if you're not eligible for Council Tax Support, in certain circumstances you may still be able to get a discount on your Council Tax bill.
