Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children

Request Description

1)      Within your local authority, what is the timeframe within which the initial age assessment of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people is completed?

2)       Is a Children and Families needs assessment, as defined by the Children Act 1989, completed for an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child? If so, does this help inform an Age Assessment?

3)       For an age assessment in your local authority, does a qualified social worker lead the assessment? If not, who does?

4)       How many social workers are required to be present during an age assessment interview? Who else is required to be involved during the Age Assessment?

5)       When completing an age assessment what tools and/or processes are used to inform the age assessments e.g. X-ray, dental assessments etc.

6)       Do you have any internal policies separate to National Policies than can help social workers complete an age assessment? If so, can you provide a link to this or attach a copy?
