On the 23 June 2016 the UK voted to leave the European Union. On the 31 October 2019 we are due to leave the EU. The Brexit uncertainty has led many individuals, organisations and companies to question what will happen when we leave. The government published information which can be accessed below regarding these issues

At East Hertfordshire District Council, we are working to ensure that no matter the exit deal, we are prepared to take care of our residents.

The government have set up pages on the GOV.UK website with all the information you may need regarding issues with Brexit. This page contains all the information you may need to prepare yourself or your business for Brexit.

EU Settlement Scheme

If you are living in East Herts and are an EU, EEA (including Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Swiss citizen, you and your family will need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021. If you are successful in your supplication, you will get either settled or pre-settled status.

The deadline for applying for this scheme is 30 June 2021.

The Citizens Advice Service (CAS) can support with applications and answer any questions local residents or businesses might have. The service is free, confidential and impartial. Visit the CAS at one of their local drop-in sessions, call their Adviceline (03444 111 444) or get advice by email by filling in their online form.

Advice for Businesses

The government have published advice for what businesses and citizens may need to know in order to prepare for Brexit. This advice is available on the GOV.UK website

The government also have advice guides relating to different sectors. Gov.UK has produced various handy flowcharts for import and export processes after Brexit for various industry types.
