Community PlanningIntroductionThe Local Government Act 2000 gave councils a new statutory duty and a new power to promote the environmental, economic and social wellbeing of their communities. This means that councils have an obligation to consult local people about improvements they want in their area. The process of Community Planning is a tool for local people to identify and assess strengths, weaknesses, future demands and opportunities. Under the direction of the Head of Community and Cultural Services, Officers from the Council's Community Projects Team, as well as other public sector organizations have worked with local people and voluntary/community groups in the various towns to identify the impact of changing circumstances. In this way, the first East Herts Together Community Strategy was produced. The Strategy represents an agreed set of priorities which come from local people. The government expects all the statutory organizations (town, parish, county and district councils, health trusts, police and educational organisations) and the voluntary and private organisations to work together (East Herts Local Strategic Partnership) to achieve these priorities. In 2007, the 10 priorities were changed to six and the actions updated:
The East Herts Local Strategic Partnership Community Strategy Action Plan 2007/08 is in the form of a work plan for 2007/08 and is structured around the simplified framework of six local themes.
