Get a moo-ve on to Hertford farmers' marketIntroductionJune 6, 2008 There's more than just the usual mouth-watering variety of fresh local food at the next Hertford Farmers' Market on Saturday, June 14. That's because a unique guest has been invited along. Daisy-May the cow is a specially created bovine exhibition giving children the opportunity to find out more about healthy eating and where dairy products come from. Daisy-May will be joining up to 30 traders offering a huge variety of food including fruit and vegetables, preservatives, spices, fresh meat, home baking and more. The market is organised by Action for Growth in the Rural Economy, a project run by East Herts Council to provide advice and training to local rural industries. It's certified by the National Farmers' Retail and Markets Association - a guarantee that everything on sale is fresh and locally produced; supporting the local economy and Hertfordshire farmers. The market will be held alongside the weekly charter market, from 8:30am until 1pm in Market Place, Hertford. Mike Carver, Executive member with responsibility for economic development said: "Farmers' Markets are a great way to attract more people into town and give people a wide range of healthy, locally produced produce. "Food education is so important these days so we're delighted to bring Daisy-May into Hertford. There's sure to be something for everyone so if you've never been to a Farmers' Market before, this Saturday will be a great time to start." ENDS |
