East of England Regional Plan

The East of England Plan was published in 2008 as the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the East of England Region. It was prepared by the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA).

Revocation of the East of England Plan

On 3rd January 2013, an Order was laid before Parliament that formally revoked the East of England Plan.

This was the first regional plan to be revoked in the country.

The Plan was subject to a strategic environmental assessment to assess the likely significant effects of revoking it.

Localism Act 2011

The Localism Act which received Royal Assent on 15th November 2011 provides for the abolition of Regional Strategies.

Legal Challenge to RSS Revocation

A house builder successfully challenged the Secretary of State's revocation of regional strategies. Read the full pdf icon judgement (Nov 2010) [1Mb].

RSS Revoked

On 6th July 2010 the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government announced the revocation of regional strategies. View the letter from the Secretary of State to Chief Planning Officers including some Frequently Asked Questions.

RSS Review 2010
