Anti-Social Behaviour Complaint - We Will Investigate

Introduction

(Article date: May 12, 2010) If you report anti-social behaviour in East Herts, your complaint will be properly recorded and investigated.

That's the guarantee contained in a set of minimum standards published by the East Herts Community Safety Partnership (CSP) – a group of organisations including East Herts Council and the police that work together to keep our district a safe place.

The suicide of Leicestershire mum Fiona Pilkington nearly three years ago was one factor that led the government to ask CSPs to draw up minimum standards. Ms Pilkington killed herself and her disabled daughter Francesca, after police ignored her complaint about local youths making their lives a misery for many years.

The East Herts CSP standards include:

· Working to reduce anti social behaviour (ASB) year on year

· Take reports of ASB seriously, keeping victims informed of action taken

· Offering advice and practical help to victims of ASB

· Giving residents a right of complaint.

Councillor Malcolm Alexander, East Herts Council's Executive member for community safety and protection, said: "Anti-social behaviour can blight people's lives and it's essential that complaints are taken seriously and investigated promptly and thoroughly.

"The new minimum standards set down on record the high standards we were already committed to achieving. Working in partnership, the CSP will use all the powers it has to make sure we take a tough stand against offenders and protect the district's law-abiding citizens. That will help ensure that East Herts remains a safe place in which to live and work."

To report anti-social behaviour when it's not an emergency, call the council on 01279 655261 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) and ask for the community safety team, or report it at How can I report anti-social behaviour?  or call the police any time on 0845 33 00 222.
