The Executive is charged with the overall political direction of the Council, providing clear and accountable leadership, and recommending policies to the Council. The Executive comprises of seven members including the Leader of the Council. The 50 councillors who make up the District Council are elected by the community to represent the ward's interests. Officers Chief ExecutiveAnne Freimanis leads the Council, supported by 3 Directors She is directly responsible for Strategic Direction including Performance and Communications DirectorsDirector of Neighbourhood Services (Simon Drinkwater) responsible for - Health and Housing (including Environmental Health and Housing Development), Community Safety (including Licensing) and Planning and Building Control. Director of Customer and Community Services (George A Robertson) responsible for - Environmental Services (including Pest Control, Waste Services and Grounds Maintenance), Community and Cultural Services and Customer Services (including Parking and the Web Team). Director of Internal Services (Alan Madin) responsible for - People and Organisational Services, Financial Support Services, Revenue and Benefits, Democratic and Legal Services and Business Support Services. The Council has powers to agree new policy and set the budget and Council tax. The public can attend Council meetings, take part in the Question Time sessions, and present petitions to Councillors.
