Sustainability AppraisalA Sustainability Appraisal of the SPD was undertaken, which is also included within the Supporting Document. SummaryThe provision of accessible, safe and attractive public open space and facilities for sport and recreation underpins people's quality of life. The Council views such provision as important to individual's health and wellbeing, and to the promotion of sustainable communities. New residential development places increased pressure on open space, sport and recreation provision within the District. Where new development occurs it is important that sufficient open space, sport and recreation provision is made to make proposals acceptable in land use planning terms. The Council's responsibility is to enable and co-ordinate the provision of these, to ensure that they are located in the right places, are of high quality, offer opportunities for biodiversity and are well maintained and managed to meet the needs of the community. |
