ElectionsIntroductionThe staff who carry out the canvass to produce the East Hertfordshire Register of Electors, are also responsible for the organisation and conduct of all elections held within the District. Local Councillors are elected for the whole of the District and County once every four years, while parliamentary and European election dates are announced by the Government. District, Town or Parish Council by-elections are held on request by electors when a casual vacancy occurs. We publicise details and voting arrangements for elections by posting notices throughout the District (normally on district, town and parish notice boards). Details of candidates and election results are given in the same way. For district wide or national elections, we also place notices in several local newspapers. We send a poll card to every qualified elector at least 7 working days before an election takes place, giving the date of poll and address and opening times of the relevant polling station – if you are on the register but don't receive a poll card you will still be entitled to vote and should contact our office for details of which polling station to attend. If you are unable to get to your polling station to vote you can apply for a postal vote or proxy vote in advance of any election. How do you rate this information / service?
