Guide to the Constitution

Introduction

This Guide is a summary of our Constitution.

We are here to provide essential services across East Herts, working with agencies such as Hertfordshire County Council and the Police to meet the needs of everyone who lives, works or visits the district.

The decisions we make on your behalf are really important. We want to encourage you to have more say in how our organisation is run, the types of services we provide and our plans for the future.

This guide is a summary of our Constitution. It explains how the different parts of the Council work together; how we make our decisions and how you can have your say. You can see the  on our web site

  • The People who make up your Council
This section describes the two different groups of people who make up the council: Councillors and Officers
  • Council Meetings
We make our major decisions about our business at meetings. The meetings are open to the public and we publicise the details beforehand. Everyone has the right to attend these meetings (although we will ask you to leave when we are considering personal or confidential matters) Public participation is positively encouraged at some meetings. The two main decision-making meetings are Council and the Executive.
